When people say enjoy every minute of your baby because it goes by so fast, boy are they right. I can’t believe how fast 6 months has flown by. It seems like just yesterday that we brought him home for the hospital and he was nothing but a crying, sleeping, eating little blob that had stolen our hearts. I had always wanted to do a newborn photo shoot with him, but the sleepless nights won out and it was everything I could do for those first few months just to take care of him and then make sure that I was showering. Needless to say we never got a newborn photo shoot done for him and I kind of felt like a shitty parent for not doing it.
But, now that we are a well rested home with an active and alert 6th month old little blue eyed boy, I really wanted to capture this special time in our lives with some sweet photos of our son. I called our dear friend Joe Goger to snap off a few shots for us. Joe photographed our engagement session, our wedding and our maternity photos. He’s so talented and we adore him! This session was no different and I wanted to share a few of my favorites with you here.
Before this shoot, I looked up inspiration photos on Pinterest to help decide on a vibe for the shoot. I sent a few ideas to Joe so that we were on the same page.
I wanted everything to be super simple and just let him shine. I chose to use our guest bedroom as a back drop because it gets the most natural light and all the bedding is white.
We didn’t dress him up in anything fun or silly. I really wanted him to be as natural as possible. So we took a risk and took his diaper off. Nothing is better than a naked little baby! But he did pee on the bed. LOL.
The whole shoot took about 20 minutes. I couldn’t believe how into it Ford was. He was fascinated by the camera and kept looking right into the lens.
THOSE EYES!!!! My husband and I both have hazel eyes so I was shocked to end up with a blue eyed little boy. But we think he gets them from his Grandpa Marvin, my hubby’s dad. He passed away a few years ago and now my husband jokes that it’s his dad’s way of keeping an “eye” on him.
Instead of dressing him up in clothes, I brought a few props to play with just to give the photos another fun element. This oversized stuffed lion looked so cute in the background.
I saw a similar photo like the one above on Pinterest and I wanted to recreate it. Ford wasn’t having it.
He’s recently figured out that if he holds his arms up someone will most likely pick him up and squeeze him. His arms are out stretched all of the time.
We had just come from the gym and were sweaty and stinky but I was determined to get a few shots together as a family. Overall, this was such a fun and easy shoot and I can’t thank Joe Goger enough for coming and playing with us that afternoon in our guest room. I will cherish these photos for the rest of my life.
